ZaptoPhone Overview and Installation Instructions
Service Description
Unwired Appeal's ZaptoPhone service enables websites to deliver music,
soundbytes, photos, and graphics to millions of cell phone subscribers
across the USA and worldwide. Website owners simply insert small pre-formatted
tags into their webpages that identify the desired content for cell
phone delivery.
While browsing a website, a visitor can select a photo or music clip
and Unwired Appeal's Adaptive Content Server (ACS) automatically retrieves
the content, optimizes it for the visitor's cell phone, and delivers
it directly to the phone.
Why use ZaptoPhone?
- increase site traffic by enabling visitors to receive
unique audio and visual content on their cell phones
- extend site marketing into the “mobile channel”
- generate site revenue by charging for premium content
How does it work?
1) When a site visitor clicks on a Zaptag, the ACS platform places the associated audio/visual file in a mobile webcart for the visitor.
2) For new visitors, a quick and fully-automated capability check is performed to discern the precise audio/visual
abilities of the individual cell phone (this check is only required once).
3) The music or graphic is then optimized to fit the playback capabilities
or screen size/resolution of the user's cell phone.
4) Upon confirmation by the user, the optimized file is then transferred directly to the cell phone where it can be used as a ringtone, wallpaper, screensaver, or simply stored for later playback/viewing.
Where is the money?
Each content download is charged $1.99 to the end-user. Accepted forms of payment are Premium SMS (charged to the cell phone),
PayPal, or credit card. Premium SMS is currently available for T-Mobile and Cingular subscribers (T-Mobile subscribers may only purchase
via Premium SMS).
For each credit card or PayPal transaction, the content partner (that's
you) receives an outpayment of $1.12. For each Premium SMS transaction
the content partner receives an outpayment of $0.75. Payouts are quarterly
on amounts over $20.00. For high-volume customers, monthly payments
are available.

Installation and Technical Notes
Installation
To implement ZaptoPhone, simply follow these steps:
1) Prepare the audio/visual files that you wish to offer
Individual file sizes must not exceed 500KB. Please review additional
recommendations in the next section "Supported File Formats".
2) Insert the following line of javascript in the website
page(s) that will contain the Zaptags (only required once per web
page) -
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.zaptophone.com/resources/zaptophone.js"></script>
3) Add Zaptags for each music/graphic file in the following
format (the quotes are required)
<a href="javascript:zap('URL_of_file', 'Display_Name', 'Reference_ID');">'Link
Text'</a>
- URL of file: the location of music or graphic (eg. 'http://www.uwapp.com/song.mp3)
- Display Name: the filename you would like displayed in the webcart
- Reference_ID' (optional) : allows you to track and report files
by unique ID
- Link Text: the text you would like displayed as the hyperlink
in your webpage
Example:
For the logo from Google.com, the Zaptag would look like
<a href="javascript:zap('http://www.google.com/images/logo.gif',
'Google Logo');">Zap this Google Logo to your cell phone!</a>
Charging
for your Content
To receive outpayments for ZaptoPhone downloads you will need to sign-up
for the ZaptoPhone Partner Program. When doing so you will receive
a unique partner ID along with your username and password for accessing
your account pages to view your revenue.
Now create the billing information file as follows:
1) Use a text-editor (e.g. Notepad) to create a simple text
file with the following two lines:
partnerid=xxxxxxx (you will receive your Partner ID when you sign-up)
psms=199
Example file:
partnerid=1023ACW13
psms=199
2) Save the file as tginfo.txt and place it in either
a. the root directory of your website (i.e. http://www.sitename.com/tginfo.txt),
OR
b. the same directory on your website that contains the MIDI, MP3,
JPG, or GIF files.
Supported File Formats
ZaptoPhone supports MIDI, MP3, GIF, and JPG files. The maximum file
size is 500KB. For best cell phone playback/viewing results, we
also highly recommend the following -
a. MIDI files not exceed 30 seconds in duration
b. MIDI files not exceed 16 “voices” (channels)
c. MP3 files not exceed 20 seconds in duration
d. GIF and JPG files not exceed 640x480 resolution (we
recommend 320x320)
If MIDI/MP3 files exceed the recommended file length (30 and 20
seconds respectively), our servers will truncate the file. If you
elect to edit your MIDI/MP3 tracks for ringtone use, we also suggest
that you select a portion of the file that is most representative
of the original file. In many cases this is not the song introduction
(i.e. beginning of file).
Cell Phone Support (Conversion Notes)
- Photo/Graphic files
ZaptoPhone will resize original files to fit the screen size of
the target cell phone. Color screen required.
- Music/Sound files
MIDI files - MIDIs make the best ringtones across the widest array
of mainstream cell phones. MIDIs are converted to fit the maximum
number of "voices" (channels) supported by the target cell phone.
The majority of cell phones on the market today support between
4 and 40 voices. We recommend a maximum of 16 channels to preserve
the audio quality for the widest range of phones.
MP3 files - MP3 files are converted to MMF, QCELP, AMR, or MP3.24kps
depending on the capabilities of the target cell phone. Newer "next-generation"
cell phones support one or more of these formats.
